Your amalfi coast experience
Positano is a very particular place along the coast stepped on the mountain up to the sea. It’s well-known everywhere thanks to its much colored ceramic and majolicaware, most of them reproduce the typical Coast cultivated lemon. Further, there are also home-cooking and many friendly restaurants where you can eat the savory local dishes like spaghetti with seafood, the fresh pasta like gnocchi, fresh fish, and one of the most famous cheeses in the world: the Provolone del Monaco.
In Positano we suggest to do shopping into its fashion shops! The streets of Positano are lined with all kinds of shops that are hard to resist, with displays of attractive colourful pareos, swimsuits, summer frocks, scarfs and handmade sandals: the shoemakers of Positano are able to pack on request tailored comfortable sandals, elegant and colourful. But not only shopping! You can take photos or to have a drink near the beach.
From Positano the Amalfi coast day tour continue to Amalfi, but before arriving there, we suggest short stops in the most attractive and interesting places like:
A pull-off in front of the famous five-star San Pietro Hotel with a wonderful sight on the whole Positano land;
Stop at Conca dei Marini with the splendid “Emerald Grotto” (Grotta dello Smeraldo), where we can visit it in about 20 minutes, paying only 5€. This cave can be reached using a lift on the road. It takes its name from the emerald colors in the water, it isn’t an underground grotto like the Blue grotto of Capri as it’s dug just in the rock in the sea. There is to say that the Blue Capri Grotto, differently from the Emerald one, is situated under the sea level so that if there is a high-tide it disappears from the sight.
The Amalfi Coast trip continue to Amalfi: this place is suggested for its ancient history. In fact it was a famous “Marinara Republic” together Pisa, Genoa and Venice: it was originally a Roman colony, it became a diocese after the fall of the empire, suddenly it become property of the Duchy of Naples. Finally the city declared its independence and became an autonomous republic (839).
In Amalfi we recommend to visit the St.Andrea Dome, with its grand stairway, that was built in the 9th century: is the town’s most important monument, located in “Piazza del Duomo“. Near to the Dome there is an ancient Basilica, now become a small museum, and the fascinating Cloister of Paradise, both containing medieval and beautiful murals.
Amalfi is also famous for its Paper Factory and Museum: along the road to the Ferriere Valley, the Amalfi’s Paper Museum was founded in 1969 by Nicola Milano, owner of the paper-mill and member of one of the most famous families working in the paper production. It hosts machineries and instruments used in the ancient paper-mills.
Next stop of Amalfi coast private tour from Sorrento is Ravello, a wonderful place at 350 meters on a green hill. Known for its ravishing gardens and beautiful views, it is renowed as the terrace overlooking on the Amalfi coast. We suggest you to Explore the popular Gardens of Ravello:
Villa Cimbrone, a massive open space comprised of lush fountains, gardens, temples and assorted follies that overlook the sea from the distance. Villa Rufolo, one of the most popular travel destinations. Its represent a gorgeous synthesis of Arab, Sicilian and Norman architecture; its beautiful gardens were built for the wealthy and prominent Rufolo family.
In Ravello we suggest you to visit also its most beautiful churches: The Dome, which faces its main square (Piazza Vescovado), is the spiritual and social center of Ravello: it is a combination of Baroque and Romanesque styles. On the way back we can stop for a happy hour, stop to eat the famous and Amalfi ice-cream or a cappuccino at a bar.
